Whiting, Annette T. 96, of Owatonna, MN died Thursday, April 19, 2012. Annette was born Dec. 27, 1915 in Owatonna, MN, daughter of Caryl E. & Dorothy (Buxton) Twitchell. Annette joined the Women's Auxiliary Army Corps (WAC) during WW II and became its first married woman in the WAC; she served at Ft. Des Moines. Following WW II, she began her lengthy career as a volunteer including involvements with the Girl Scouts, League of Women Voters, public schools, and numerous civic organizations. Annette Whiting will be remembered by her family and friends as a "doer". She cherished her family and was, likewise, cherished by them. She is survived by her husband, William; daughter, Sabra (William) Otteson of Edina, MN; son, William, Jr. (Judy) Whiting of Rochester, MN, New Zealand AFS daughter, Lynette (Barry) Gregg; her grandchildren, Richard Shannon, William (Terry) Whiting III, Lindsay Whiting, Jean (Dennis) Bowman, Nancy (William) Buller, William J. (Elizabeth) Otteson; and great- grandchildren, Sarah Bowman, Logan Whiting, Sam Buller, Chris Buller, Tommy Bowman, Sylvia Otteson and Harry Otteson. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at the Associated Church in Owatonna. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Koda Living Community Foundation (Cedarview Nursing Home, Owatonna) or the Homestead Hospice House Patient Care Fund of Owatonna.
