Herbst, Sally Meyer 1914 - 2012 Died July 26, 2012 of natural causes at the New Harmony Care Center in St. Paul. Preceded in death by husband, George; 9 brothers and 3 sisters. Survived by sister, Alice Claggett of Mitchell, SD and brother, Cleo Meyer of Little Falls, MN; daughters, Beverly Aplikowski (Richard), Becky Kimlinger (Gary), and Shirley Wolf (Joseph) and son, Mark; 10 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. Sally and George were also foster parents caring for over 25 children and hosting 3 foreign exchange students. Sally was born in Pierz, MN to Peter and Elizabeth Meyer. She moved to St. Paul when she was 20 and married George Herbst soon after. Together they were successful business owners of the LaKubin Grocery Store on Lafond Ave. in Frogtown. They expanded the grocery store into the Becky Lee Bakery and later opened the Colonial Coffee Shop on Dale Street. Sally became a pillar in the community through her businesses and volunteer work in different organizations, until injuries from a car accident left her unable to live alone. After a series of operations, therapies, and care centers, she came to reside at New Harmony Care Center in 2005. Sally was a strong, fiercely independent businesswoman, with a caring heart and a generous soul. She was a people connector and gave her time and talent to help others in need throughout her life. Sally's motto for life: "Always be willing to listen and help, but not to judge." Thanks to the wonderful staff at New Harmony Care Center for their outstanding care for many years. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to New Harmony Care Center, 135 Geranium Ave. E., St. Paul, MN 55117.
