Proops, Richard (Dick) Our beloved Dick, 87, of Eden Prairie, died of prostate cancer September 29. Preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Kottom. Survived by wife, Mariel; sons, Kevin (Sandy), Martin (Rosie), and daughter, Sarah Millard (Bob Burgess); grandchildren, Eric, Amy and Charlie Proops and Scott Millard. Born in South Orange, NJ, Dick served in the US Navy, graduated from Franklin & Marshall College and earned an MBA from Columbia University. He worked as a management consultant, but found his passion in manufacturing, with positions as president of McCulloch Industries and Charmilles/ Andrew Technologies. As a child, Dick was a member of the East Orange Junior Horseback Riding Troop, which was commanded by his father. He became an Eagle Scout at age 15 and continued his involvement in Scouting while his sons were members. Later he served on the Wayzata School Board and was active in Eden Prairie city government, as well as the Republican Party. Dick was a man of integrity, a loving husband and father. His family, friends and care- givers sustained him and his unique sense of humor throughout his long illness. Graveside service 10:30 Sat., Oct. 20 at Holden Church in Kenyon, MN. A celebration of his life will be held Sat., Oct 20 from 3 to 5 PM at Olympic Hills Country Club in Eden Prairie.
