Scheer (McQuillen), Hellen Born July 8, 1914 near Crosby, ND, passed away October 10, 2012 in Blaine, MN at the age of 98. She was one of seven children born to Palmer James and Emily McQuillen who had settled to farm and raise honey bees in Warba, MN. Hellen and two of her sisters became teachers and taught in one-room schoolhouses in Itasca County during the Depression. In 1938, Hellen married Clarence "Conny" Scheer and they had two daughters, Marie and Joyce. During and after WWII Hellen taught in Deer River, Marcell, Bigfork, Minneapolis and, finally, Grand Junction, CO. She received her Master's Degree from the U of M, was a certified reading specialist and remarkably taught for 47 years before retiring in her early 70s. For many years the couple travelled from CO to MN to enjoy the log cabin they built. Hellen loved music, art, reading and lifelong learning, and passed her love of nature to her children, grandchildren and many students. Celebration of Hellen's life is October 21, 2012 at 1:30 at the Presbyterian Church in Bigfork. Visitation precedes the service.
