Schwartz, Rene age 85, of Mpls. Died suddenly of a heart attack December 9, 2012. Preceded in death by her husband, Alan; brother, Charles Meyers. Survived by family friends, Izeta Jevtic, Diane Dovenberg Lewis. Rene was a Family Therapist and Clinical Social Worker in St. Paul. Born and raised in Washington, DC, she came to the University of Minnesota for post secondary and graduate education. After receiving her Masters Degree in Social Work in the 1950's, she cared for hundreds of children & families at the Wilder Child Guidance Clinic in St. Paul. In 1969 she co-founded the Family Therapy Institute in St. Paul and became a noted early pioneer in training Family Therapists before the establishment of formal academic training programs in marriage and family therapy. Rene was admired by many friends, colleagues, former clients & students and loved for her brash wit and keen insight. No service will be held. Interment at Fort Snelling.
