Doll, Gordon N. Age 89, of Hinckley, MN formerly of Mpls. Born in Chisago City MN 3/2/1923 and died 12/29/12 at Mpls VA Hospital from lymphoma. Gordon donated his body to the University of Minnesota. Survived by Elna, wife of 63 yrs; daughter, Cindy; son, Jim; grandchildren, Casey and Jesse (Andrea); and great-granddaughter, Ava; sisters-in-law, Vel Doll and Lorey Doll. Preceded in death by brothers, Chuck, Ron and sister, Jean. Graduated North High School 1941 where he participated in hockey, track and field, football, and was twice voted All-City running back for the Polars. Gordy served in the Pacific during WWII as a Marine Corporal, and was a member of the American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans, and former State Commander of the DAV. Accompanied by son, Jim, Gordy was honored for his service by being chosen to go on the "Honor Flight" to Wash. DC. in May 2012. Along with other veterans, they visited the war memorials and Arlington Cemetery. He was a third generation mail carrier, and was actively involved in Scouting and YMCA Indian Guides. Gordy was an avid outdoorsman, played amateur hockey for the East Side Men's Club, loved to golf, do wood working, and coached Youth hockey in Webster WI. He was beloved by many as "Santa" for 40 plus years! The family will announce a memorial service in late spring.
