Johnson, Ms. Mamie R. - Statesboro  
STATESBORO, Ga. -- Ms. Mamie R. Johnson, age 61, passed away on Monday, January 19th, at her residence after an extended illness, under the excellent care of Spanish Oaks Hospice. She was a native of Bulloch County, a member of Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church and a retired employee of Georgia Southern University. She is survived by her companion of many years, James Willie Hobbs, Statesboro; three daughters, Ronnett Miller (Horel Merat), Elizabeth, N.J., Tawanda Stimage (Marcus Murray) and Marilyn Stimage, both of Statesboro; one son, Ronald Johnson, Statesboro; three sisters, Mary Lowery, Lois Ann Johnson and Shirley Edwards, all of Statesboro; two aunts, Jo Ann Wilkerson, Elizabeth, N.J., and Hattie Wilkerson, Hilton Head, S.C.; a godson, Craig Robinson, Statesboro (Vanessa Wilkerson, Elizabeth, N.J.); 12 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The funeral service for Miss Johnson will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2015, at Agape Worship Center with Elder Donald Chavers, pastor, as eulogist and Bishop Anthony Chavers, presiding. Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery. The family will receive family and friends on Friday evening from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home. James R. Barnes Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements. Joyner, Mr. Gregory Scott "Big Dog" - Statesboro  
STATESBORO, Ga. -- Mr. Gregory Scott "Big Dog" Joyner, age 52, died on Thursday, January 22, 2015. The North Carolina native graduated from Nash Central High School and moved to Statesboro in 1982. He was a graduate of the Georgia Police Academy and was a deputy with the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office for over five years. He was the owner and operator of Joyner Construction and Real Estate Development Company and worked with Patel Enterprises for many years. He was the co-owner of Bulloch Bail Bonding Company. He was a mason and a member of the Ogeechee Lodge #213 and the Statesboro Shrine Club. Scott was the number one football fan of the Georgia Southern Eagles, He loved being with his friends and family at Paulsen Stadium on Saturday afternoons. He was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church and the Friendship Island of Misfit Toys Sunday School Class. Surviving are his wife of 31 years, Elizabeth Womack Joyner; a daughter, Ashley Joyner, and her fiancé, Philip William Mitchell; a son, Austin Joyner, and his long-term girlfriend, Chelsi Lewis, all of Statesboro; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Glenn and Windy Womack of Statesboro; his mother and father, Cleveland Earl and Margaret Joyner of Nashville, N.C.; a brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Cindy Joyner of Nashville, N.C. Several nephews also survive. The visitation will be held on Saturday from 4-7 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Sunday at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Statesboro with the Rev. Tom Osborne officiating, assisted by the Rev. Bill Eller. His body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kane Bustle, Tim Wilson, Richard Deal, Bobby Durden, Lindsay Martin, Lynn Anderson, Jeff Deal, Wade Hodges and Wesley Parker. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Friendship Island of Misfit Toys Sunday School Class and the Bulloch County Sheriff's Department.
