Elise Godbee Jenkins, 77, of Sylvania, passed away Sunday morning at the University Hospital in Augusta, Ga.
Elise was a lifelong resident of Screven County and had been employed as a buyer for the children's department of Minkovitz and also as a certified nursing assistant at the Screven County Hospital before her retirement. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Sylvan Heights Club. She was a breast cancer
survivor and was very active in the local Relay for Life. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lottie Martha Flythe and Thomas Ivy Godbee; her brothers, Thomas "Bubba" Godbee, Palmer Godbee, Ruben Godbee; and a grandson, Justin Beall.
Mrs. Godbee is survived by her husband, Fred Jenkins Jr. of Sylvania; two daughters and son-in-law, Darlene Jenkins Snyder of Sylvania and Denise Jenkins and David Beall of Hoganville; siblings, Katherine Godbee, Jeannette G. Kemp, Joann G. Green, Dennis and Kathy Godbee, all of Sylvania, and Dannie and Pansy Godbee of Waynesboro; grandchildren, Josh Collins of Statesboro, Kimberly Collins of Rincon and Steven Beall of Madison, Wis.; a great-grandchild, Brailynn Collins of Statesboro; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home, Screven Chapel.
The funeral service for Mrs. Jenkins will be Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Charlie Cooper officiating and the Rev. Dr. Karen Zeigler assisting. Interment will be in the Screven County Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Dale Godbee, Duane Godbee, Dink Godbee, Alan Godbee, Russ Godbee, Mike Godbee, Josh Collins and Steven Beall.
Honorary pallbearers will be Frances Kemp, Winifred High and Dalphine Reddick.
