Mrs. Louise (Lipford) Cone

STATESBORO, Ga. -- Mrs. Louise Lipford Cone, age 101, died January 11, 2014, at her residence.
Mrs. Cone was a native of Franklin, Ga., but lived most of her life in Statesboro, Ga. She was valedictorian of her 1929 high school class, graduated from Georgia State College for Women in 1933 and married Rufus Lester ""Bunny"" Cone Jr. on October 22, 1939. Bunny was a partner in Ellis Drug Company until he sold the store in 1976. Louise was a teacher of high school English and French in Ephesus, Ga., Tyus, Ga., Register, Ga., Metter, Ga., Stilson, Ga., and Statesboro, Ga., from 1933-1943. She was a periodical librarian at Georgia Southern College from 1965 until her retirement in 1976.
She was a member of the Statesboro Methodist Church for many years, having taught Sunday school and been the superintendent of the Primary Department at the church. Louise and Bunny were founding members of Pittman Park United Methodist Church. She was a past member of the administrative board, past circle leader and past president of the United Methodist Women, and a past Sunday school teacher. She was a Cub Scout den mother and a Brownie Scout leader for three years each. She served as president of the Merry Weeders Garden Club, was a member of the Chat and Sew Club and was a life member of the Bulloch County Historical Society.
Mrs. Cone was preceded in death by her parents, Mort Wyatt and Maud Bledsoe Lipford; her husband, Rufus L. ""Bunny"" Cone; her two sisters and their husbands, Annice Elizabeth (Lloyd Harold) Snyder and Inez (Sylvester B.) Jones; two sisters-in-law, Mary Agnes Cone (Frank Everett) Williams and Alma Cone (Henry Daniel) Everett; and a brother-in-law, Harold Lee (Christine Caruthers) Cone.
Survivors are her son and his wife, Rufus L. (Margaret N.) Cone of Bozeman, Mont.; her daughter and her husband, Mary Janice Cone (Christopher) Carroll of Emerald Isle, N.C.; three grandchildren, Carlotta Lee Carroll, Maria Cone Carroll and Joseph Lipford Carroll; three nieces, Jane Ann Everett, Elizabeth Everett Brown and Martha Jane Jones Turner; and three nephews, Frank Everett Williams Jr., Lloyd Harold Snyder III and Robert Lipford Snyder.
Visitation will be held Saturday, January 18, 2014, from 10-11 a.m. in Pittman Park United Methodist Church Chapel.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 18, 2014, at 11 a.m. in Pittman Park United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Bagwell and the Rev. Bill Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Eastside Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Tom Adams, Barrie Bloser, Hoke Brunson, Arthur Howard, John Lee and Jim Tillman.
Honorary pallbearers are Garland Black, Toni Bloser, Tricia and Comer Duggan, Juanita and John Flake, Betty and Lamar Merck, Warren Nease, Jackie Smith, Pat Thompson, Myrtle Tillman, Mary Bon Wallace, Norman Wells and Charlie Williams.
