Mrs. Martha Burgess DuBois, 91, of Sylvania, passed away Monday morning at Syl-View Healthcare Center.
Born in Pembroke in 1922 to the late Eva Owens and John Shelton Burgess, she moved to Savannah and later Statesboro, where she lived for over 25 years. For the last nine years, she has lived in Screven County with her son, Richard.
Martha was a charter member of the Bible Baptist Church in Savannah, Ga., where she taught Sunday School classes for 25 years and was a supervisor of the Junior Church, and more recently here in Sylvania she was a member of the Grace Bible Baptist Church. For many years she also corresponded with missionaries all over the world.
Survived by her children, Richard and Lee DuBois of Sylvania, Fred and Rose DuBois of Atlanta and Diane and Chris Kuhn of Springfield, Miss.; her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and J.W. Anderson of Wilmington Island; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday afternoon from 5-7 p.m. in the Screven Chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held Friday, April 11, at 2 p.m. at Grace Bible Baptist Church with the Rev. Warren Devevo officiating. Interment will follow in the Lawrence Baptist Church Cemetery near Pembroke, Ga.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Ward, Virgil Arnett, Zack Lewis, Cliff Devevo, Ronnie DuBois and Ricky DuBois.
