STATESBORO, Ga. -- Mrs. Mary Grace Lastinger Tankersley of Statesboro, Georgia, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Saturday evening, January 4th, 2014, at Eagle Health and Rehabilitation. On May 25th, 2010, her husband, D.L. Tankersley, preceded her in his homegoing. She was the daughter of Lemuel Clayton Lastinger and Sally Shuman Lastinger and born in Chatham County, Georgia.
During their 66 years of marriage, three daughters, Kay Vickery (Jim), Virginia Burgin (Larry) and Pat Tankersley (Michael), were added to form a loving, united family. In addition, five grandchildren, Lee Woodcock, Michelle Highsmith, Shonna Canicatti, Shae Williams and Wade Burgi; and eight great-grandchildren were added, all who reside in Statesboro, Ga.
Grace was one of 12 brothers and sisters. The surviving siblings are Felix Lastinger, Wallace Lastinger, Claydie Perkins, Eddie Pratt Lastinger and Bernie Lastinger. The brother and sisters who preceded her in death are Birdie Mae Smith, Irene Brown, Verie Lastinger, Carol Sellers, Claude Lastinger and Tillie Driggers.
Grace was a lifetime member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, where she sang many specials, taught Sabbath School, community service assistance and preparation of many church meals and functions. Gospel music was her passion and her most beloved family song was, ""You Are My Sunshine"". Family time was most important, centered around her dinner table for a meal, guidance, support and most of all love.
The funeral service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with the Rev. John Swafford officiating, assisted by the Rev. Steven Murdock. Interment will be in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, nephews and great-grandsons, Lee Woodcock, Wade Burgin, Chris Williams, Frankie Tankersley, Rodney Lastinger, Mason Canicatti and Slade Burgin.
Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Hilde, Doy Lastinger, Jeff Spence and Drexel Berry.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Gentilly Gardens and Eagle Health and Rehab for their care and love shown to our Mom.
