Mrs. Rachell (Stewart) Burgess

STATESBORO, Ga. -- Mrs. Rachell Stewart Burgess, age 69, died on Monday, March 24, 2014, at her residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Garden City, Ga., native entered the full-time ministry as a special pioneer with her sister in Elberton, Ga. She moved back to Garden City in 1971 and met and married Ozell Burgess in 1974. They served in the ministry, initially in the Waynesboro Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses for 12 years before moving to Statesboro in 1986 and have served continuously since then in Statesboro.
Surviving is her husband of 40 years, Ozell Burgess of Statesboro, Ga.; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Harold and Johnnie Stewart of Savannah, Ga., and Thomas Stewart Jr. of Detroit, Mich.; a sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Rick Van Valen of Athens, Ga. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The memorial service for Mrs. Burgess will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Snella's.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Statesboro Congregation of Jehovah's Witness, c/o Ed Preve, P.O. Box 594, Brooklet, GA 30415.
