Miss Reba L. Bassett

SYLVANIA, Ga. - Miss Reba L. Bassett, 96, of Sylvania, died Friday morning, 2/11/11, at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility in Statesboro. She was born in Screven County to the late Martin Luther and Annie Daughtry Bassett. She made her home with her brother-in-law and sister, George and Maud McBride, until their deaths. She was a retired supervisor with the Thomson Company in Millen, Ga., and was a member of the McDonald Baptist Church.
She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews including: Jewel Becton and Gloria Becton of Millen, Ottis (Jeanette) McBride, Alton (Mildred) McBride and Jerry McBride of Sylvania, Arnold McBride and Gaile (Holmes) Ramsey of Statesboro, Faye (Richard) Montgomery of Sylvania, Barbara (Randy) Speering of Belvedere, S.C., and Wanda McBride of Dawsonville, Ga.
She was preceded in death by her siblings: Ida Waters, Mildred McBride, Maud McBride, Maybelle McBride, Thelma Jenkins, Eunice Royal, Henry Bassett and Curtis Bassett.
Visitation will be Saturday afternoon from 5-7 p.m. at Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. at McDonald Baptist Church with Dr. Jack Gatlin officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.
Active pallbearers will be Michael McBride, Todd McBride, Justin McBride, Keith Speering, Bob McBride and Kenneth Bassett.
Honorary pallbearers will be other nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, GA 30459; or to the McDonald Baptist Church, c/o Mrs. Dorothy Pierce, 207 Oak Street, Sylvania, GA 30467.
