William Allen "Bill"/"Buddy" Smith passed away Wednesday, March 5th, at Ogeechee Area Hospice.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth A. Smith; and his son, William R. Smith, both of Statesboro.
Bill is preceded in death by his father and two brothers.
Bill is survived by his mother, four brothers and several nieces and nephews residing in the Memphis area.
After graduating from high school in Memphis, Tenn., Bill joined the U.S. Army
and served in Vietnam as a flight engineer. He moved to Savannah in 1970, where he was employed by Union Camp Corporation, working in environmental engineering. In 1979, he moved to Athens, where he earned his MBA in taxation from UGA and obtained his CPA license. Upon returning to Savannah, he was employed as a CPA with Brewin, Boswell, and James, CPAs, and later a partner with Tindol and Smith, CPA. Bill opened his own private practice in 1995 and retired in 2012.
Bill was very proud of becoming a Mason at Clinton Lodge in 1981. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church and he served as their accountant for several years.
Bill was a very kind, giving and warm-hearted man who loved his children and life in general. He had a quick sense of humor and could never turn down a good debate. He loved games and puzzles and was an avid classic movie fan.
Family will receive friends and guests at Old Fellowship Baptist Church in Brooklet, Ga., on Sunday, March 9th, from 2-4 p.m.
