AOMORI, Japan -- Dr. Dai Tanno passed away July 20, 2013, after a brief illness. Dr. Tanno, a professor at Aomori Public College in Japan, obtained his first undergraduate degree at Waseda University and studied philosophy at the graduate schools of Waseda University and Keio University. He continued his education in the U.S. and received an undergraduate degree in Sociology at Georgia Southern University and went on to obtain his doctorate of Anthropology at the University of Georgia. A respected scholar, he was a noted author of several books and articles in various academic publications. As well as being a member of the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society, he also served on the editorial review board of the Southern Business Review.
Dr. Tanno taught at a number of schools including Salem Teikyo University in Salem, W.Va., and Aomori Public College in Aomori City, Japan. A dedicated educator, he devoted himself to his students, his family and his research. During his career, he made many friends in the international community and touched the lives of his students, always for the better.
Dr. Tanno is survived by his wife, Kay Tanno; and son, Keiichiro Alfred Tanno of Statesboro; a brother and a sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Koh Tanno of Japan; a sister, Ms. Kazuko Tanno, also of Japan; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Belton Braswell of Statesboro.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 2 p.m. in the First Methodist Church fellowship hall on August 18th with the Reverend Jimmy Cason officiating.
Remembrances in honor of Dr. Tanno can be made to Victor, Rebecca and Richard Persico Memorial Scholarship at Georgia Southern University.
