STATESBORO, Ga. -- Dr. Donald Fredrick "Don" Hackett, age 94, died Sunday, August 25, 2013, at Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Center. The Wakefield, Michigan, native moved to Statesboro in 1948 to teach at Georgia Teachers College. He retired from Georgia Southern University as dean of the School of Technology in 1984. Dr. Hackett attended the University of Illinois, St. Louis University, Northwestern University and the University of Missouri. He served his country as communications training director for the 13th Naval District as lieutenant.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Hynes Hackett.
Dr. Hackett is survived by two sons, Michael (Pamela) Hackett of Dacula, Ga., and David (Marianna) Hackett of Fort Mill, S.C.; two daughters, Ann Hackett of Augusta, Ga., and Mary (Ricky) Henley of Statesboro, Ga.; one sister, Florence Damhorst; seven grandchildren, Cody Hackett, Katy Hackett, Maryann Hackett, Ty Henley, Megan Watkins, Mary Ashley Henley, Lyn Hamer and BJ Myers; three great-grandchildren, Reagan Watkins, Reece Watkins and Jordan Henley; a special friend, Myrtle Tillman; and caretakers, Betty Mills and Andrea Webb.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 27, from 5-8 p.m.
The funeral service will take place Wednesday, August 28, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Bagwell officiating.
Pallbearers will be Cody Hackett, Ty Henley, Zack Watkins, Todd Hoeg, J K Burnette and Skeebo Moore.
Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery.
The family requests that memorials be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro GA 30459.
