STATESBORO, Ga. - Mrs. Marie Ivey Parker, age 90, died on Saturday December 8, 2012 in the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility. The Early County native had lived in Bulloch County for most of her life. Mrs. Parker received her B.S. Degree in Education from the University of Georgia; a Masters in Education and her Six Year Certificate from Georgia Southern University. Mrs. Parker taught school for over 33 years primarily in Bulloch County. She was a 2000 recipient of a Deen Day Smith Award; and a volunteer (Pink Lady) with Bulloch Memorial Hospital and East Georgia Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Parker was an active member of the First Baptist Church and the Steadfast-Dorcas Sunday school Class. She was preceded in death by her husband George E. Parker and a daughter Janice Parker Bowers.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law Terry and Felicia Parker of Macon, Ga.; a son-in-law Gary Bowers of Cary, NC; four granddaughters Jennifer (Andy) McMiller of Alpharetta, Ga., Lauren Parker of Macon, Ga., Elizabeth Bowers of Clayton, N.C., and Erin Bowers of Holly Spring, N.C.; a grandson Ryan (Natalie) Bowers of Asheville, N.C.; a brother Carl (Janet) Ivey of Birmingham, Ala.
The visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 from noon until 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Dr. H. William Perry officiating.
Interment will be in Eastside Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Richard Mallard, Phil Parker, David Lewis, Jake Ivey, Jim Ivey, Jeff Ivey, Mike Ivey, Dick Ivey and Doug Ivey.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the WMU and the Steadfast-Dorcas Sunday School Class.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church 108 North Main Street, Statesboro, GA 30458 or to Ogeechee Area Hospice P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, GA 30459.
