METTER -- Roy Hubert Daughtry, 86, died Friday, November 30, 2012, at the Candler County Hospital. The Candler County native and son of Roy and Ida Bowen Daughtry returned to the family home place in 1999. He was a 1944 Metter High School graduate and a 1952 graduate of University of Georgia, with a B.S. degree in Agriculture. The Army veteran served in World War II in the military police in the Phillippines. After teaching in Glennville, Wrightsville and Sylvania, Mr. Daughtry retired as an Agriculture teacher with the Glynn County Board of Education. He received numerous awards as an advisor to Future Farmers of America.

After retirement, he worked with the U.S. Census Bureau and Department of Commerce. In 1991, he travelled with a group to China on an agriculture teaching trip. He is a member of the Metter Primitive Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Walter Howard Daughtry; and a sister, Grace D. Chambless.
Survivors are his wife of 61 years, Marlene Pruett Daughtry; son, Hu Daughtry and wife, Susan; a daughter, Dr. Susan Ferrell and husband, Robert; grandchildren, Raef Ferrell, Ridge Daughtry Ferrell and Sierra Daughtry.
The funeral service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Metter Primitive Baptist Church, with burial in the Hubert Daughtry Family Cemetery. Military honors will be observed.
Visitation will be Sunday, from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
