SYLVANIA, Ga. -- Mrs. Annie Lou "Lula" Jarrell Calhoun, age 90, died Sunday, March 23, 2014, at Syl-View Health Care Center in Sylvania. Born in Florence, South Carolina, Lula moved to Emanuel County as a teenager and resided there until moving to Sylvania in 2006. She was a homemaker and a member of the Aaron Church of God in Portal.

Mrs. Calhoun was preceded in death by her husband, George Washington Calhoun Sr.; a daughter, Catherine Davis; two sons, Andy Calhoun and George Calhoun Jr.; three grandsons, Chaz Calhoun, Johnny Neely and Stacey Wilkerson; and a granddaughter, Lisa Grooms.
Surviving are seven daughters, Carolyn Neely of Millen, Nancy Davis of Portal, Betty Biggers of Metter, Dot Cowart of Metter, Penny Calhoun of Walterboro, S.C., Jean Hendrix of Independence, Ky., and Sandra Mullins of Sylvania; three sons, Joe Calhoun, Roy Calhoun and Wesley Calhoun, all of Portal; 32 grandchildren, a sister, Martha Pribble of Fayetteville, N.C.; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
The funeral service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Roy Jarriel officiating. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Portal.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
