GARDEN CITY - Bobby Gordon Bohler, 73, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2009, at Memorial Health University Medical Center.
Bobby was born in Bulloch County, Ga., to the late C.O. & Belle Bohler. He graduated from Register High School and went to North Georgia Technical School on a basketball scholarship.
He was also preceded in death by brothers, Dr. Emory Bohler of Brooklet, Harry Bohler of Statesboro; and a granddaughter, Courtney Elizabeth Alford. He was a member of the Garden City United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir, served as past Trustees chair and held many other leadership roles.
He served his country two years in the United States Army, two years on the Garden City City Council and was a devoted Georgia Bulldog fan.
He was a self-employed masonry contractor for 50-plus years and continued to share his craft with his family, friends and church. Bobby was a true artist who took pride in his masonry skills. Bobby also took pride in his family and church. He adored his wife, children and 11 grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Pat; four daughters and sons-in-law, Greg & Leesa Bohler Hunter, Mark & Bendy Grainger, Troy & Becky Alford and Ricky & Vicki Meeks; 11 grandchildren, Garrett & Chrissy Alford, Judson, Caroline & Spencer Alford, Gordon & Jesse Hunter, Olivia, Ben & Nolan Meeks, Sam & Luke Grainger; brothers and sisters, Darwin & Joyce Bohler, Carolyn & Charlie Millican of Statesboro, Dodie & Rocky MacElhannon of Columbus and Billie Bohler of Brooklet; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral to honor Bobby's life will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2009, at the First Baptist Church of Garden City, 35 Nelson Avenue, Garden City, GA.
The family will receive friends at the Garden City United Methodist Church Memorial Hall, 62 Varnedoe Avenue, Garden City, Ga., immediately following the service.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, remembrances be given to the Garden City United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 62 Varnedoe Avenue, Garden City, GA 31408.
