Mrs. Brenda Sue Blitch Hendrix, age 62, died Wednesday morning at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility. The Faulkville, Ga., native moved to Bulloch County as a child, graduating from Southeast Bulloch High School in 1969. She resided in Jenkins County for several years until moving back to Bulloch County. Brenda was employed with Bulloch Memorial Hospital and East Georgia Regional Medical Center in the business department and as a para pro with the Bulloch County Board of Education, working at Portal Elementary and Mattie Lively schools until her retirement two years ago. She was a member of the Portal United Methodist Church and was active in other local ministries. Mrs. Hendrix was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy Blitch Sr. and Mary Marie Beasley Blitch; and a brother, Darrell Blitch.
Surviving are her husband of 34 years, Tommy Hendrix of Portal; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Ashley Drake of Millen and April and Joey Lanier of Statesboro; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Jamey Hendrix of Lawrenceville; five grandchildren, Dawson Drake, Zane Lanier, Zoey Lanier, Zander Lanier and Natalie Hendrix; her mother-in-law, Gertrude Hendrix of Portal; four brothers, Clark Blitch of Stilson, David Blitch of Warner Robins, John William Blitch of Brooklet and Leroy Blitch Jr. of Brooklet; and four sisters, Patricia Mikell-Jones of Statesboro, Dale Bates of Charleston, S.C., Anna Miller of Statesboro and Julie Jordan of Rocky Ford.
Visitation will be Friday from 5-8 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
The funeral service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Portal United Methodist Church with the Rev. MIra Barrett officiating.
The body will lie-in-state at the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Portal City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Nary, Brandon Blitch, Jay Reddick, Gary Stewart, Brian Deal, Casey Wayne Blitch, John Blitch and Mike Strickland.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, Ga. 30459.
