STATESBORO, Ga. - Mrs. Eloise Smith Nessmith, age 102, died Saturday, April 21st, 2012 at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility in Statesboro. The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County was a graduate of Georgia Teachers College and taught school in Bulloch County from 1929 until 1939. The majority of her life was that of a homemaker and a dedicated wife and mother. Mrs. Nessmith was a lifelong member of the Bethel Baptist Church. She was a member of the Westside Homemakers Club and Towne and Country Garden Club. She served the Brannen Family Cemetery Committee for many years. Most recently, Mrs. Nessmith was a resident of Willow Pond where she had received exceptional care from their staff and also other caregivers over the years.
Mrs. Nessmith was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Nessmith and a son, Paul Nessmith, Jr.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Billy and Carol Nessmith of Statesboro; three grandchildren, Dr. Ben Nessmith and wife Allyson of Statesboro, Dr. Matt Nessmith and wife Jennifer of Greenville, SC and Susan Nessmith Hatfield and husband Jim of Atlanta; five great grandchildren, Katherine, Abigail and Paul all of Statesboro, and Charlotte and Jamison of Greenville, SC and a sister, Kathryn S. Phillips of Monroe.
Visitation will be Sunday from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.
Interment will be in the Brannen Family Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Randy Smith, Bill Smith, Dick Burnett, Ed Bailey, Jack Bailey, Thomas Joyner and Jim Anderson.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, Ga. 30459 or Bethel Baptist Church, 5820 Westside Road, Statesboro, Ga. 30458.
