STATESBORO, Ga. -- Whitaker Funeral Home announces the demise of Mr. Frank Edward Nixon Sr., 83, of Statesboro, Ga., who had his transition Sunday, February 2, 2014, under hospice care surrounded by his loving family.

He was a native of Bulloch County, Georgia, and reared in the small community of Pig Eye (Briar Patch District). He attended the public schools of Bulloch County. He worked at Bryant's Kitchen and Ella's Diner before moving to Savannah, Ga., where he retired from Georgia Pacific after 22 years of service. He was a member of Prince Albert Masonic Hall, the 12 Gauge Hunting Club and Lakeside First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Betty Mason-Nixon; his children, Guinevere Ross (Henry), Charles, Frank Jr., Stanley (Rena), John Nixon (Stephanie), Statesboro, Ga., Stewart (Denise) Raleigh, N.C., and Dale Nixon (Justine), Durham, N.C.; brother, Andrew Nixon, Manchester, Ga.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be Friday 6-8 p.m. at Whitaker Funeral Home, 25 North Kennedy Street, Metter, Ga.
The service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lakeside First Baptist Church, Highway 46 East, Metter, Ga. Interment: church cemetery.
