Mr. George Herbert Blaxton, age 84, died, Saturday, April 12, 2008,at Community Hospice of Vidalia, after an extended illness. He was a native of Montgomery County, having lived most of his life in Toombs County. He retired after thirty-seven years of service, as a Heavy Equipment Operator with Georgia Power and served in the Merchant Marines and the Army. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 330, of Vidalia. He loved his family, fishing and gardening and was a wonderful story teller and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church of Vidalia. He was preceded in death by his first wife of thirty-nine years, Orethia Faircloth Blaxton, a daughter, Rhonda Gail Blaxton, and a step-daughter, Patricia Campbell.

Survivors are: his loving wife of nineteen years, Mrs. Vondell Sewell Blaxton of Vidalia; one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Joy Blaxton of Peoria, AZ; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and John Gruenewald of Statesboro, and Sharon and Ronnie Stone of Baxley; one brother, Thelbert Blaxton of Vidalia, three sisters; Betty Humphrey , JoAnn Waters, and Elizabeth McLemore all of Vidadlia; three stepchildren, Durwood Collins, Brenda NeSmith and Donnie Collins; six grandchildren, Kim Sikes, Jeri Lyn Bradley, Stephanie Cassedy, Aimee Hooks, Joshua Stone and Logan Blaxton, two great grandchildren; Carson Hand and Addison Hooks. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services for Mr. George Herbert Blaxton, will be held Monday, April 14, 2008, at 11:00 A.M, from the Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Fred Swann and Rev. Bobbie Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens of Vidalia.
Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Sunday Evening, April 13, 2008, from 6:00 until 9:00 P.M.
