STATESBORO, Ga. -- Mr. James H. "Sonny" Driggers, age 85, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Claxton, Georgia, and moved to Bulloch County for several years, returning to Claxton from 1958 until 1968 and then back to Bulloch County. He was a lifelong carpenter and farmer. Mr. Driggers enjoyed his life of farming, being on his tractor and spending time with his beloved dog, "Lady Girl".
Mr. Driggers was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon Driggers and Robena Groover Driggers; and his siblings.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Freda Colson Driggers of Brooklet; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Paul and Janet Driggers of Statesboro, Randy and Pam Driggers of Brooklet, Danny Driggers of Claxton and Virgil Driggers of Clito; seven grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday from noon until 2 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
The funeral service will follow the visitation at 2 p.m. in the chapel with the Rev. Tim Huffingham officiating. Interment will be in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Leon Waters, Randall Driggers, Darrell Colson, James Pearce, David Pearce and Wayne Colson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lamar Meeks, Don White, Freddy Ruarks, Randy Akins and Randy Morris.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Emit Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 1567 Emit Grove Road, Statesboro, Ga. 30458; or Gentiva Hospice, 5105 Paulsen Street, Suite 2250, Savannah, Ga. 30401.
