STATESBORO, Ga. -- Mr. Jesse Lewis Hinton Jr., age 65, died on Thursday, January 2, 2014, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center. The Augusta, Ga., native was a 1966 graduate of Butler High School and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Hinton was a self-employed building contractor, before retiring from Georgia Southern University's housing maintenance department. He was a member of the VFW and an active volunteer for many organizations, including the Christian Motorcycle Riders and Faith Riders, and was a volunteer of the year with Keep Bulloch Beautiful. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Lewis and Helen Hinton Sr.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn H. and Rodney Lastinger of Statesboro and Michelle H. and John Jackson of Waynesboro, Ga.; his former wife of 37 years, Betty Ann Hinton of Statesboro; five sisters, Kathleen (Bill) Kemick of Irmo, S.C., Ann (George) Brewer of Birmingham, Ala., Cindy (Rick) Cogdill of Elgin, S.C., Carol Hinton of Texas and Cynthia (Lynn) Rigby of Rexburg, Idaho; five grandchildren, Tiffany Lynn Deal, Brandon Deal, Summer Lastinger, Abbigal Adams and Lauren Grey Jackson; and two great-grandchildren, Caden Grooms and Cole Driggers. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-3 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Chaplain W. C. Stringer officiating.
Honorary pallbearers are the members of the VFW, Patriot Guard, CMA and the Faith Riders.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to VFW Homeless Housing, 5115 Ogeechee Road, Savannah, GA 31405.
