STATESBORO, Ga. -- L.T. "Speed" Thompson, D.D.S., age 80, died on Saturday, February 9, 2013, at his residence under the care of Hospice Advantage. The Alma, Ga., native attended Bacon High School and graduated from Emory University School of Dentistry. Dr. Thompson was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. Dr. Thompson practiced dentistry for over 30 years in Statesboro. He was a life member of the Georgia Dental Association, the American Dental Association, Georgia Academy of Dentistry and was a fellow of the Georgia Dental Association. Dr. Thompson was a member of the Pittman Park United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Patricia Cammack Thompson of Statesboro, Ga.; a son and daughter-in-law, William Robert "Bill" and Pam Thompson of Augusta, Ga.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Nancy and Alan McQuown of Greenwood, S.C., and Deborah Preston of Statesboro, Ga.; eight grandchildren, two sisters, Carol Meeks of Brunswick, Ga., and Jane Thompson of Darien, Ga.. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family would like to thank the care givers at Hospice Advantage and Dr. Aaron Clark.
The visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.
The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Pittman Park United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Brown and the Rev. Tim Steffan officiating. Interment will be in Eastside Cemetery and will be private.
Pallbearers will be Barry Bloser, Dr. Comer Duggan, Norman Wells, Pete Powell, Mac Mathis, Robert Wiggins, Bill Griffin and Roy Woodard.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Woody Powell Sunday School Class and the members of the 10:30 R.J's. Coffee Club.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Pittman Park United Methodist Church Team, 1102 Fair Road, Statesboro, GA 30458.
