PORTAL, Ga. -- Mrs. Sarah Womack DelPonte, age 90, died Monday morning at the Candler County Hospital. The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County was a graduate of Portal High School. Sarah worked for the Bulloch County Bank for several years and spent most of her career as a secretary for Rockwell Company. She was an active member of the Portal United Methodist Church, where she was the church secretary for many years. She was an avid reader.
Mrs. DelPonte was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Lewis "Del" DelPonte; and her parents, Ernest Lee Womack and Alexa Parrish Womack.
Surviving are her extended family, Mary Taylor, Shirley T. and J.D. Pascullis and family and Patsy Chaney and family, all of Portal, and Don and Kim Taylor and family of Midland, Mich.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 1-2 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. in the chapel with the Rev. Donald Sparks officiating. Entombment will be in the Bulloch Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
Pallbearers will be John Gwinett, Geoffrey Chaney, Jamie Baker and Don Taylor Jr.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Portal United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 401, Portal, Ga. 30450.
