BROOKLET, Ga. -- Mr. William Eugene "Gene" Saxon, age 36, died Wednesday, January 29, 2014, in South Carolina. Gene was born in Metter, Ga., but lived most of his life in the Brooklet area. He attended Southeast Bulloch High School. Gene worked with Grainger Honda for several years and then began his career with the Carpenter's Local 256 in Savannah, Georgia.
Gene loved fishing and spending time at his home on the Ogeechee River.
Surviving are his daughter, Roseanne Saxon of Brooklet; his mother, Cherie Saxon of Ft. Bragg, Calif.; his father, Don Saxon of Claxton; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Terry and Bryan Halbur of Melbourne, Fla., and Mollie Saxon of Claxton; three nieces, Lilly Halbur, Lindsay Williams and Patricia Rivers; and two nephews, Christian Saxon and Nicholas Halbur.
Visitation will be Saturday from 5-8 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home of Statesboro.
The funeral service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Albert Hodges officiating. Interment will be in Northside Cemetery in Pembroke.
Pallbearers will be Antonio Diaz, Christian Saxon, Nicholas Halbur, Timmy Sutherland, Brett Rivers and Chris Everett.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Carpenter's Local 256.
