STATESBORO, Ga. -- Mr. Joseph C. Bennett, age 72, passed away early Tuesday at his residence. He was a native of Savannah and graduated from Jenkins High School. Mr. Bennett also graduated from Sub Marine School in New London, Connecticut, and served six years in the United States Navy. He retired from the Savannah Airport after 28 years of service and was a member of the Wesley Oak United Methodist Church in Thunderbolt. Mr. Bennett enjoyed reading, watching football and working in his yard.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Sharon Starling Bennett of Statesboro; his children, Joseph Bennett Jr. of Mobile, Ala., Randy Bennett of Texas, Gerald Bennett of Statesboro and Tammy (Michael) Hanson of Pooler; six grandchildren, Ryan Hudson, Kerry Bennett, Alex Bennett, Timothy Bennett, Ansley Bennett and Morgan Sapp; one great-grandchild, Jaelyn Garcia; one brother, Julius Bennett of Wilmington Island, Ga.; two sisters, Jean Lewis and Lois Rhiner, both of Savannah.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon Thursday at Fairhaven Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel.
The graveside service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
Fairhaven Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.
