Edith Joyce Barber, 84, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Thursday, March 6, 2014, in Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro, S.C.

Mrs. Barber was a longtime resident of the Middleground Community and was of the Methodist faith. She retired after 35 years of service from the Medical Center Pharmacy, where she worked as a short-order cook and was the maker of countless chicken salad sandwiches. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin "Junior" Barber; her parents, Bernard Butler and Marie Akins Smith; and her sister, Sue Cook.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Barber Codella, Murrells Inlet, S.C.; grandson, Canio M. Codella, and his wife, Katherine Shurler Codella, of Apex, N.C; granddaughter, Sayrah Sims, Durango, Colo.; one brother, one sister, two great-grandsons, Canio Michael Codella IV and M.J. Codella, both of Apex, N.C.; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2014, at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2014, in the chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home with the Reverend James Floyd Bland officiating. Burial will be in Upper Mill Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
