MILLEN, Ga. -- Franklin C. "Shag" Garvin of Millen arrived at his new heavenly mansion on Thursday, March 20, 2014. The Millen native was a retired third generation residential contractor who owned and operated his own business. After a successful career of building, he engaged in rental property. He was an active member of West Millen Baptist Church, a member of the Men's Sunday School Class, a past member of Magnolia Country Club and also served his country through the National Guard. His greatest earthly moments were celebrating life with his family and especially giving life lessons to his grandchildren, Hil, Lauren, Hayden and Dorminy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Louise Waye Garvin; a sister, Bobbie Jean Parker; and a brother, Eddie Garvin.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marie Thompson Garvin of Millen; son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Kim Bolton Garvin of Vidalia; daughter and son-in-law, Angie and David Johnson of Swainsboro; grandchildren, Hilton Garvin Johnson and Dorminy Marie Johnson of Swainsboro and Lauren Elizabeth Garvin and Rodney Hayden Garvin of Vidalia; a sister and brother-in-law, Glenda and Harold Royal of Sylvania; a brother, Larry Garvin of Jacksonville, Florida; a sister-in-law, Judy Garvin of Millen; and a mother-in-law, Mildred Thompson of Sylvania.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Crowe-Fields Funeral Home in Millen.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at West Millen Baptist Church with the Rev. Andy Allen and the Rev. Perry Hearn officiating.
The body will lie in state an hour before the service.
Interment will follow in the City of Millen Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are Jimmy Knight, Larry Evans, King Rocker, Steve Burke, Ed Fuller, Al Knight, Matt Brinson, Bubba Small and Sonny Feagin.
Honorary pallbearers will be the West Millen Baptist Church Men's Sunday School Class, Jenkins County High School classmates, Ollie Moore, Billy Amerson, Rodney Oglesby, Tommy Johnson, Neasbitt Reynolds, Carl Thomas, all former employees of Garvin Construction Company and Virginia's Coffee Club.
In lieu of floral offerings, memorial contributions may be made to West Millen Baptist Church Bus Ministry Fund, P.O. Box 549, Millen, GA 30442.
