BROOKLET, Ga. -- Mr. William Hilton ""Pete"" Sheffield, 53, our loving brother, entered into eternal rest, Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at Greenville Memorial Hospital in Greenville, S.C. Born September 1, 1960, in Statesboro, Ga., he was a son of the late Emmitt Hilton and Bobbie Ellen Howell Sheffield.

Pete was a 1979 graduate of Southeast Bulloch High School. Following his education, Pete was employed with Brannen Tobacco Warehouse in Statesboro, Sheppard Lumber Company in Brooklet and the Bulloch County Board of Education. He began his career with the Public Works Department of the City of Brooklet, retiring in August of 2013, following 27 years of dedicated service. Pete had a great love for the people of Brooklet and his church and enjoyed the opportunity to visit and talk with everyone. He was a fun-loving, caring and giving individual who sincerely loved his family. Pete was a member of the Brooklet United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Covenant Sunday School Class.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Sheffield.
Surviving are four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Glenda Brown and Janie Sheffield, both of Liberty, Loveta and Mike Key of Pickens and Irene and Jerry Stewart of Garfield, Ga.; a brother, Lonnie Sheffield of Gaston; nieces and nephews, Christopher and Kasie O'Neal, Samantha Sheffield, Brittany and Casey Bickel, Ashley and Nathan Griffith, Jamie Sheffield, Kathryn and Corey Holcombe, Shannon Sheffield Baldwin and Mickey, Aaron Key, Stephanie Sheffield and Andrew Key; and several great-nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Brooklet United Methodist Church with the Rev. Wes Moye officiating.
The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Brooklet City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Hal Cromley, Jason Cleary, Raymond Crosby, Mark Strickland, James Sanders, Jamie Sheffield and Jerry Stewart.
Honorary pallbearers will be employees of the City of Brooklet, the Covenant Sunday School Class and Chap Cromley.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Brooklet United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 296, Brooklet, GA 30415.
