SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Mr. Cary Grant NeSmith, age 75, died Wednesday evening, April 2, 2014, at St. Joseph/Candler in Savannah. The Glennville, Georgia, native was a 1955 graduate of Glennville High School, where he was the drum major. Following his education, Grant worked with Friedman Jewelers in Statesboro for several years. In 1959, he joined the U.S. Air Force, in which he served until 1963.

Following his military service, Grant moved to Thomson, Ga,. where he began his career working with Dixie Finance Company, where he was employed throughout the state of Georgia. During his career, Grant was called into the ministry. He worked as a part-time youth minister and minister of music, until he began his full time ministry with Belmont Baptist Church in Calhoun, Ga. He had resided in Savannah, Georgia, for the past several years.
Mr. NeSmith was preceded in death by his parents, Byron Nathaniel NeSmith and Bonnie Brown NeSmith.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Sean Cox of Dalton; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Chris and Julie NeSmith and Cary NeSmith, all of Adairsville; nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild, a brother, Ken NeSmith of Brooklet; and a sister, Betty Bacon of Savannah.
A private graveside service and burial, with military honors, will be conducted in Bulloch Memorial Gardens on Saturday with the Rev. Tommy Jordan officiating.
