STATESBORO, Ga. -- Mrs. Vera Mae Allen, age 82, passed away on Wednesday morning at East Georgia Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. She was a native of Emanuel County, a member of Scarboro Grove Baptist Church and a former employee of Georgia Southern University.

She is survived by three daughters, Cassie Allen Carter, Macon, Ga., Martha C. Allen and Juanita Allen, both of Statesboro; two sons, Hosea Lee Allen, Statesboro, and David Allen, Atlanta; a sister-in-law, Idella Shepard, Savannah; five stepsisters, Clarice Davis, Johnnie M. Bradley, Surena Utley, Mildred Utley and Sadie Gilmore; three stepbrothers, Frank Bradley, James Bradley and Ben Bradley; 11 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral service for Mrs. Allen will be held on Saturday, May 31st, at 11 a.m. at Scarboro Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. E. Charles Lee, eulogist, and the pastor, the Rev. Grant Turner, presiding. Burial will be in St. Matthew Baptist Church Cemetery, Metter, Ga.
The remains will lie in state at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral hour.
