STATESBORO, Ga. -- Mrs. Ethel Jane Roberts Collins, age 72, died Wednesday evening, June 25, 2014, at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro. She was born in Register, Georgia, to the late Ellis and Rebie Roberts. Ethel married Tom Collins Jr. in 1959 and the two made their home in Statesboro. She was a dedicated employee of Braswell Foods in Statesboro for over 25 years, retiring in 1997 due to her battle with cancer.
Ethel was of the Church of God faith.
Ethel has been a loyal Georgia Bulldog fan for many years and has enjoyed being able to visit with several players throughout the years.
While in her yard one day several years ago, a bird, "Pretty Boy," landed on her shoulder. He, along with her beloved dog, Bootsie, have been her constant companions following the death of her husband in 2008.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Faye and John Quick of Statesboro; a son, Ricky Collins and Teresa Dyches of Ellabell; a sister, Bernice Barrow of Eatonton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Smokie and Donna Roberts of Riverdale and Earl and Pat Roberts of Register; four grandsons, Jeffery Lively of Ball Ground, Dewayne Collins of Pooler, Thomas Collins of Pooler and Kody Collins of Statesboro; and four step-grandchildren, Angie Henry of Claxton, Dustin Quick of Pembroke, Brackton Quick of Baxley and Lara Davis of Portal.
Visitation will be Friday, June 27, 2014, from 5-8 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
The funeral service will be Saturday at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson with Donnie Roberts officiating. Interment will be in the Middleground Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Donnie Roberts, Marshall Deal, Bobby Roberts, Brandon Roberts, Johnny Hendrix, Chris Cranton and Joey Strout.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the , 515 Denmark Street, Suite 500, Statesboro, Georgia 30458.
