Mrs. Winifred Evans High, 94, of Sylvania, passed away Saturday morning, June 28, 2014, in East Geogia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro.

She was born and reared in Screven County and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She graduated from Sylvania High School and Georgia State College for Women. As an avid caretaker of her yard, she grew beautiful roses that graced the homes of friends and her church with lovely arrangements.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Helen Skinner Evans and James Hezekiah Evans, husband, Asa DeCarr High, and her daughter, Ann Charlotte High. Other members of her family that have gone on to be with the Lord are her sisters, Lura Avret, Liz Jamerson, Irma Spearman and brothers, James, Ralph, John and Bo Evans.
She is survived by her son: Dr. James A. (Jimmy and Pat) High of Statesboro, GA, her grandsons, J. and Elizabeth High and Andy and Francesca High, great-grandchildren, Ainsley, James, Elise, Thearon, Quinlan, and Saralyn High. Several Nieces and Nephews also survive.
Visitation will be at the Sylvania First Baptist Church on Sunday, June 29, 2014, beginning at 1:15 p.m. with the funeral service, conducted by Dr. Charlie Cooper, to follow at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Screven County Memorial Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be: Thomas Avret, Don Jamerson, Todd Rodenberry, Richard Montgomery, Clint Sheppard, and Paul MacGregor, Jay Brinson and Bob McBride.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Philathea Sunday School Class of Sylvania First Baptist Church and the Wednesday Morning Birthday Club.
