STATESBORO, Ga. -- Mr. Frederick Roger Inman, age 81, passed away Friday, July 18, 2014, at his home in Statesboro, Georgia, after an extended illness. The Buffalo, S.C., (Union County) native graduated from Union High School in 1952 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War. After returning from the military, he graduated from Wofford College and accepted a position with Esso Oil Company in the state of Florida. Mr. Inman moved to the Atlanta area in 1967 and worked for Crown Central Petroleum, being located in Spartanburg, S.C., Charleston, S.C., and then back to Atlanta before retiring in 1993.
He dearly loved the next 10 years he spent with children and driving a school bus for Gwinnett County. Mr. Inman volunteered at Lilburn Lions Club Park as a youth baseball and football coach and spent 30 years in the program as a baseball umpire. He had a great love for sports and children. He dearly loved to sing and bent many an ear with his songs of long ago. He was a member of Buffalo United Methodist Church, Buffalo, S.C. He was also a member of Spartan Masonic Lodge #70, Alee Shrine –- Savannah, American Legion Post 87, Buffalo, S.C., and Brooklet Kiwanis Club, Brooklet, Ga.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Billy Hobart and Pearl Wright Inman; a brother, Jennings Inman; and sisters, Geneva I. Inman, Valerie I. Phillips, Virginia and I.G. Vanderford and Janet Stone.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Annie "Ann" Owens Inman; a son, Frederick Roger Inman Jr., and his wife, Christy; beautiful twin granddaughters, Laneleigh Grace and Britt McLaine Inman; a brother, Bill Inman, and his wife, Nell, of Spartanburg, S.C.; a niece, several nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Saturday from 5-7 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro, Ga.
The funeral service will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. at Buffalo United Methodist Church, Buffalo, S.C., with the Rev. Ron Towery officiating.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the church.
Interment will be in Union Memorial Gardens, Union, S.C., with Masonic rites.
Pallbearers will be Michael Price, Patrick Wade, Brian Ridgeway, Brian Buckley, Jeff Buice and Kenny Whitworth.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Buffalo American Legion Post 87.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Brooklet Kiwanis Club, P.O. Box 122, Brooklet, GA 30415; or to Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, S.C. 29605.
