CLAXTON, Ga. -- Mr. James Richard Sikes Sr., age 96, died on August 17, 2014, at his residence, surrounded by his family, under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force for nine years. He was self-employed as a mechanic. Mr. Sikes was a member of the Bible Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Myra Bishop Sikes; two daughters, Patricia Sikes and Lynn Jaudon.

Surviving are his wife, Bertie Anderson Sikes of Claxton; four sons, James R. Sikes Jr. (Linda) of Pooler, Randy Sikes (Carolyn) of Eulee, Fla., William H. Anderson (Marlene) of Savannah and Ronnie Anderson (Marsha) of Metter; four daughters, Mary Dean Lewis (Doug) of Monticello, Joyce B. Rogers (Jimmy) of Statesboro, Claudia B. Hagan (Sammy) of Rocky Ford and Becky A. Sturgess (Bobby) of Savannah; a son-in-law, Greg Jaudon; two brothers, Robert D. Sikes (Jackie), Charles Sikes (Susie);and one sister, Loretta Forbes Felix, all of Savannah. Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.
The visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2014, from 10 a.m. until noon at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at noon in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Dr. Max Alderman officiating. Interment will be at 2 p.m. in Springfield Annex Cemetery in Springfield, Ga.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
