Mrs. Linda Calhoun Perry, 72, died Tuesday, August 26, 2014, in Statesboro, Ga., from complications of a stroke.
She was born in Bowdon, Ga., on March 16, 1942, to the later J.D. and Angie Calhoun. She was the youngest of four siblings, all of whom preceded her in death. Linda was married for over 50 years to Dr. Charles H. Perry Jr. They met while they were attending Georgia Institute of Technology. After Charles graduated, they moved to Toccoa, Ga., to begin their life together and there had three children, who were the light of Linda's life. They moved to Watkinsville, Ga., during the country's bicentennial year. There, Linda worked first as an assistant librarian and then as a bookkeeper for the Oconee Enterprise. After Charles completed his doctorate, the family moved to Statesboro, where Linda volunteered with Monday Morning Workers and the Helping Hands organizations of the First United Methodist Church. She was also active with the Georgia Southern Women organization. Linda loved working and visiting with the members of the Dan Williams Sunday School Class until her mobility decreased and she was unable to drive or walk easily.
Linda is survived by her husband, Dr. Charles H. Perry Jr.; and their children, Kimberly Perry of Statesboro, Michelle Perry Freeman (Tom) of Newnan and the Reverend Hank Perry (Amy) of Tybee Island; two. granddaughters, Ashley and Gabby Freeman of Newnan; and grandson, Mills Perry of Tybee Island.
The funeral service for Linda Calhoun Perry will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 29, 2014, in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church of Statesboro with the Reverend Jimmy Cason officiating.
The family will receive friends Friday from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour in the Church Gathering Place.
