STATESBORO, Ga, - Mr. Bennie Earl Deal, age 85, died Tuesday morning at his home. The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving during World War II in Iwo Jima. He was a lifelong farmer with a passion for raising quarter horses. Mr. Deal was a charter director of the Bulloch County Horsemen's Association and the Middleground Farm Bureau. He was voted "Man of the Year" in Soil Conservation for Bulloch County in 1965 and District VI "Farm Family of the Year" in 1972. He was of the Primitive Baptist faith and attended Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church. Mr. Deal was preceded in death by his parents, Horace Dewey Deal and Lillie Maude Cannon Deal.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Edith Dell Skinner Deal of Statesboro; two daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Paul Akins Jr. and Brenda and Randy Hawk, all of Statesboro; a son, Craig Deal of Statesboro; four grandsons, Zach Hawk and wife Amber, Josh Hawk and wife Kate, Grant Deal and wife Ashley and Blake Deal; two great-grandsons, Zachary Hawk and Ryan Deal; and a great-granddaughter, Ava Deal; and a sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and J.N. Lee of Statesboro. Several nieces, nephews and step grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church with Elder John Scott officiating. The body will lie-in-state on hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Zach Hawk, Zachary Hawk, Grant Deal, Blake Deal, Ryan Deal, Josh Hawk, Terry Lee and J.J. Lee.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Bulloch County Horsemen's Association and the Middleground Farm Bureau.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church, 210 Jonathan Road, Statesboro, Ga. 30458.
