STATESBORO, Ga. - Mr. Edward Smith Sr., age 94, passed into rest on Friday, July 15, 2011, at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. The Bulloch County native resided in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for many years before returning to Statesboro seven years ago. Mr. Smith was a member of the Miller Grove Missionary Baptist Church and he was retired. He is preceded in death by his wife, Beola Clifton Smith; a son, Edward Smith Jr.; parents, Johnny and Maebell Allen-Smith; two sisters and five brothers.

Mr. Smith leaves memories to be cherished by his children, Rosetta (Amos) Hill, Statesboro, Ga., Ruby (Curtis) Tullie, Wetumpka, Ala., Johnny (Valaida) Smith, Acto, N.J., Beatrice (Jose) Fields, Philadelphia, Pa., and Jackie (Timothy) Wortham, Navarre, Fla.; a sister, Inez (Wilma) Martin, Statesboro, Ga.; five sisters-in-law, Alice Smith, Savannah, Ga., Alma Smith, Rosetta Clifton, Rosa Lee Clifton and Susie Mae Clifton, all of Statesboro, Ga.; one brother-in-law, James (Doretha) Clifton Statesboro, Ga.; two aunts, Rosetta Hill, Philadelphia, Pa., and Eula Mae Price, Waycross, Ga.; 21 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Family visitation will be held Friday evening from 6-7 p.m. in the Ben Samuel Hill Memorial Chapel of Hill's Mortuary, Inc.
The funeral service for Mr. Smith will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2011, at the Miller Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Highway 24 East, with the Rev. Harry J. Tremble Jr., pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
