SYLVANIA, Ga. -- Ernestine Bazemore Tapley, 83, of Sylvania, died Saturday night, October 27, 2012, at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility in Statesboro.

She was born in Screven County to the late Hershel Hines and Floy Belle Bazemore and was a founding member of the Farmdale Baptist Church. She was a member of the Canasta Club for 40 years, was a homemaker, and, with her husband, was owner and operator of the Screven Drive-In and the Dixie Theater in Sylvania until her retirement in 1985.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carlton Lanier Tapley; her sons, Carlton Lanier Tapley Jr., Benjamin Lanier Tapley and Joseph Robert Tapley.
Survivors include her grandchildren, Benjamin L. Jr. and Stacey Tapley, Statesboro, Chris A. and Kiersten Tapley, Sylvania, Kim M. Tapley and Audencio Garza, Tampa, Fla., and Lauren Joe Tapley of Atlanta; great-grandchildren, Kathryn Tapley, Cody Tapley, Caleb Tapley, Clint Tapley, Alan Tapley, Christina Tapley, Aiden Tapley, Addison Tapley, Avery Tapley, and Jace Zeigler. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mrs. Tapley will be held Tuesday, October 30, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Walter Leveritt and the Rev. John Parker officiating. Burial will be in the Screven County Memorial Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Bill Bazemore, Adam Bazemore, Daniel V. Hagan, Justin Brannen, Robert Bazemore and Charles Freeman.
Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Farmdale Baptist Church.
