John Allen Jr. peacefully entered into eternal rest on Sunday, November 11, 2012, in Augusta, Ga.

John was born in Burke County, Ga., on February 20, 1941. He was employed by Thermal Ceramics (formerly Babcock & Wilcox), where he retired after 41 years of service as a ceramic finisher. A craftsman at heart, John continued to work following retirement as a barber in Waynesboro, Ga.
He was a faithful member of Beech Branch Baptist Church of Sardis, Ga. He was an avid sportsman, enjoying baseball, bowling, walking (trying to walk faster than everyone on the track). He loved spending valuable time with his six grandsons, frequently coaching and assisting them with their athletic skills. He truly loved family, often mentoring the young and visiting the old.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Christine Allen of Augusta, Ga.; daughters, Michanda (Emanuel) Bryson of Grovetown, Ga., Yolanda (the Rev. Craig) Tremble of Statesboro, Ga., and Sonya (Lenier) Kenner of Douglasville, Ga.; brother, Curtis (Lillian) Reason of New Haven, Conn.; special nephew, Charles Allen of Augusta, Ga.; grandchildren, Jordan, Emanuel, Chanin, Jonathan, Drew and Elijah; aunt, Velena Grant of Atlanta, Ga.; uncle, Dan (Amanda) Allen of Washington, D.C.; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, godchildren and devoted friends.
Public viewing will be held Friday, November 16, 2012, from 5-8 p.m. at Phinazee & Son Funeral Home, 404 West 8th Street, Waynesboro, Ga.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2012, at noon at Belle Terrace Presbyterian Church, 2454 Golden Camp Road, Augusta, Ga., with the Rev. Craig R. Tremble, eulogist, and the Rev. Dr. Melvin Lowry, pastor. Interment will follow in Mount Olive Memorial Gardens.
