RANGER, Ga. -- Mr. Maurice "Mickey" Lipsey Jr., age 58, died Friday, January 11, 2013, at home after a brief illness. The Union County, South Carolina, native moved to Statesboro, Georgia, in 1970 and lived the past 18 years in Ranger, Ga. Mr. Lipsey worked in many areas such as grocery warehousing and textiles before starting his own construction company, Lipsey Enterprises, LLC. He enjoyed playing softball and umpiring and was an avid sports fan.
He was preceded in death by his father, Maurice "Slick" Lipsey Sr.; and brother, James Joseph "Jimmy" Lipsey.
Surviving are his wife of 20 years, Shelley Snopek Lipsey of Ranger; two daughters, Alicia Lynn Lipsey and Anna Lauren Lipsey of Register; his mother, Lottie "Tootsie" Lipsey of Rocky Ford; his brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Myra Lipsey of Statesboro; his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Bennie Eubanks of Rocky Ford; nieces and nephews, Jeff and Amanda Lipsey, Angie E. and Jimmy Kimbrell, Christie E. and Jason Carpenter and Lynn E. and Jason Hodges; seven great-nieces and nephews, Heather and Cody DuBois, Justin, Jordan and Ansleigh Hodges, Samantha and Jason Michael Carpenter; and one great-great-nephew, Bradyn DuBois.
Pallbearers include Jason Hodges, Jason Carpenter, Robert "Bobby" Snopek, Cody DuBois, Jim Blackburn and Matthew Newton.
Honorary pallbearers are Noel Hernandez, Michael Snopek and Daniel Snopek.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, January 18, at 6 p.m. with visitation from 4-6 p.m. at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, 705 Old Red Bud Road, Calhoun, GA 30701. Burial will be in a private ceremony.
