Dorothy Ann Miller Thompson, 89, of Bremen, Ga., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 19, 2013.
Mrs. Thompson was born in Peoria, Ill., October 11, 1923, the daughter of the late Joseph Anthony and Rose Flynn Miller. She was a devoted and faithful member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Carrollton, Ga., a retired U.S. Postal Service rural mail carrier, an avid bridge player and round dancer.
Mrs. Thompson graduated from The Academy of Our Lady, Peoria, Ill., in 1939. In 1943, she and her sister, Darlene, moved to California, where they worked as operators for the California Bell Telephone Co. While in California, she met U.S. Army Air Corps pilot Lt. Myron N. Thompson, Jake, Ga. They married April 9, 1945. After World War II, the Thompsons returned to Bremen and began their family and service to their community. Mrs. Thompson served as a Den Mother to the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Brownies and Girl Scouts and worked with the elementary and high school PTA.
Mrs. Thompson is preceded in death by her husband, Col. Myron N. Thompson of Bremen, Ga.; two daughters, Priscilla T. Martin and Susan T. Harris of Atlanta, Ga.; her great-granddaughter, Sarah Bethany Green of Statesboro, Ga.; her sister, Darlene Miller Duncan of Chicago, Ill.; and brother, William Anthony Miller of Peoria, Ill.
Survivors include her son, Biff (Adria) Thompson, Statesboro, Ga.; her daughter, Melanie (Jim, deceased) Tisdale of Trussville, Ala.; sons-in-law, Mike Martin and RH "Bucky" Harris Jr. She was a loving grandmother to Brooke (Boyd) Green, Taylor (Jay) Wise, Joseph (Elaine) Nix, Haynes Martin, Mandi (Shane) Scott, Alexander Harris, Rebecca Harris and Alexandra Tisdale. She is also survived by the best little crew of great-grandchildren, Bryn Green, Lilla and Bette Wise, Tristen, Addison, Weston, Logan, Alexis and Graydon Nix and Davis Scott. Also surviving are her brother-in-law, Wayne (Edna Mae) Thompson of Waco, Ga.; sisters-in-law, Lucille Goodman of Kennesaw, Ga., and Evelyn R. Thompson of Carrollton, Ga.; eight nephews and four nieces.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2013, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. and a memorial service at 11 a.m. at Hightower's Funeral Home, Bremen, Ga.
Mrs. Thompson was a 22-year survivor of breast cancer and in honor and memory of her, gifts from friends and family may be made to the or to the charitable organization of your choice.
