James Dean Buchanan James (Jim) Dean Buchanan drew his last breath April 28, 2012 with his adoring wife Jayne and his brother David by his side. He was born on December 20, 1950 in Arlington, Virginia to John David (J.D.) and Marjorie Buchanan. Jim was a brilliant engineer with a BS from Principia College, an MS in Civil Engineering from the University of Maryland and an MBA from Stanford. He came to Austin, Texas in 1982 to make it his home. He left an indelible mark on the city through his work as a partner with Trammell Crow - playing a major role in the real estate developments at the Arboretum, 301 Congress and at his own company, Spectrum Realty, where he developed the Village at Westlake. He was an avid athlete who played college baseball, third base, at Principia College and also enjoyed tennis, basketball, racquetball, golf and bridge. But more significant than the impact he had on the city, is the impact he had on the lives he touched. He was a loving father who taught his kids much about life, love and responsibility. He was a playful grandfather who never tired of the endless energy and make-believe games of his grandkids. He was an unlikely best friend to his personal trainer, and he was a gentle and fiercely loyal husband to his doting wife of the last eight and a half years. It is impossible to list all the things he did to make us laugh, inspire us or make us grateful for having a dad, husband and friend that loved us as much as he did. He is survived by his wife Jayne Buchanan, whose unconditional love; selfless energy and patience are an inspiration to us all. He is also survived by his brother David Buchanan; his three children, Brad Buchanan and wife Emily, Brett Buchanan and wife Anne; Jennifer Silver and husband Erik, and his three grandchildren Abby, Will and Ava Buchanan. We would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Jim's best friend of the past five years, Adam Depmore, who truly gave of himself to provide comfort and companionship to Jim over the last years of his life. Thank you to Nancy Luongo and her amazing staff at "Our House II" who made Jim comfortable for two years and provided an atmosphere of warmth and love. Thank you also to the staff of New Century Hospice for their assistance. We thank all of the professionals that came into Jim's life during this time for their diligence, support and service to him and our family. In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation be made in Jim's honor to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration or a
charity of your choice. A Celebration of Jim's Life will be held at Remembrance Gardens at Riverbend Church on June 23, 2012 at 10:00 a.m.
