Leonard William "Nick" Carter Leonard William "Nick" Carter, 83, husband of Ann Matney Carter for 49 years, died Sunday, November 11, 2012. Nick was born July 3, 1929, in Liberty, SC to the late Henry L. Carter and Elma Adams Carter. He was a member of the Manchaca United Methodist Church, a 56 year member of Gaffney Masonic Lodge #186 in SC, and a proud member of Ben Hur Shrine in Austin. Nick served in the United States Air Force for 20 years, prior to launching a career with the Texas Water Development Board. He was a passionate golfer and a friend to everyone he met. He was predeceased by brothers, Melford, Lewis, Howard, Charles, Glenn and Billy Carter, and sister Leona Carter. He is survived by his wife, Ann Carter, sons Leonard Carter, Jr. and wife Heidi of Savannah, GA, Michael Carter and wife Stacy of Leander, and David Carter and wife Christine of Cedar Park; grandchildren Evan Carter, Ashley Carter, Joel Carter and Jonathan Carter; and sister Bernice McDaniel of Blacksburg, SC. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 17th at Harrell Funeral Home near South Lamar and Ben White Blvd. at 4435 Frontier Tr., Austin, TX. Funeral Services will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 21st at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, TX. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children (www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org).

HEART FELT CONDOLENCES TO ANN AND FAMILY FOR THE PASSING OF OUR DEAR FRIEND "NICK"! HE LOOKED OVER ME BACK IN 1974 WHEN MY HUSBAND WAS OVER IN THAILAND SERVING FOR OUR COUNTRY, AND I WORKED AT TWDB.
