Dorothy Ann Brys, 67, of Austin, was called home to her Lord on October 6, 2012 after a short battle with cancer. She was born September 17, 1945 in Tallahassee, Fla., to the late Raymond and Dorothy (Heiple) Paul. Dorothy spent most of her childhood growing up in Murphysboro, IL. Her family moved back to Tallahassee during her high school years where she graduated from Leon High School. She attended Florida State University before moving to Texas. Dorothy served several years as administrative assistant to the Director of the University of Texas
Marine Science Institute at Port Aransas. While living in Port Aransas, she attended Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, where she learned skills to become a certified court reporter. She worked several years as a court reporter in the Corpus area before moving to Austin in 1980. Dorothy established her own successful business in Austin as Oppenheimer Reporting Services. She was a longtime member of both the National and Texas Shorthand Reporters Associations. Dorothy had many interests including antiquing, reading, and working crossword puzzles. She loved to travel and saw much of Europe and the Middle East. She had a passion for dancing, whether it was country-western or belly dancing. She enjoyed a variety of music including opera. She loved animals, and they were always a part of her life. Dorothy will be remembered by many as a strong, vibrant woman who wasn't shy about expressing her opinions. She had a compassionate and loving heart. She was an active member of the South Austin Church of the Nazarene. Dorothy is survived by her husband Ronald Brys of Austin; step-son Jeremy Brys of Houston; grandson Jeremy Brys Jr. of Houston; brother Raymond A. Paul of Sarepta, LA.; sister Doris Guilday and her husband Robert of Crawfordville, FL.; and a niece, Anna L. Paul of Sarepta,LA. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at the South Austin Church of the Nazarene, 6711 Manchaca Rd., Austin, TX. 78745.
