Elizabeth Cristina Ortiz-Flournoy April 20, 1978-Feb 12, 2013
Elizabeth entered into eternal rest on February, 12, 2013 at 34 years of age. She left lasting memories of love and care, and touched the lives of so many. She was preceded in death by her father, Rudy C. Ortiz, whom she loved deeply and whom will welcome her into his warm embrace. She is survived by her loving husband, Leon B. Flournoy, who cherished her spirit and sense of humor and who will eternally be grateful for the time he shared with her. She is also survived by her paternal grandfather, George Moya Ortiz, who gave her away at her wedding and has always been a warm shield of love and care for all of us, especially Elizabeth, her sister, and brother since their childhood. She is survived by her mother who is so proud of all her accomplishments, Margarita P. Ortiz, her sister and brother-in-law Michelle O. Zuniga and Gilbert (Gibby) Zuniga, her brother, Eric C. Ortiz, her father-in-law, Robert Brent Flournoy, her mother-in-law, Velma Flournoy, her brother-in-law, Byron J. Flournoy, her nephews, Ryan C. Ortiz and Gabriel Zane Zuniga, her niece, Zoe Zuniga, and by Eric's new family, Christina Montoya and Amarige Diaz. Elizabeth was born at Christus Santa Rosa Downtown and graduated from Clark High School. She received her Bachelor of Science in Applied Learning and Development from the University of Texas
at Austin in 2002. She spent many years teaching at Martin Middle School and had recently transitioned into a counselor position at Travis High School. Liz, as she was known to most of her friends, was a woman who wore many hats. As she was attending school to complete a Masters in Counseling this summer, she planned a wedding, was making a home with Leon, and bringing joy to all who knew her. She recently received a promotion at Travis High School. She touched the lives of countless children, young adults, faculty and staff, friends, and her extended family. Elizabeth's family would like to thank all who continue to hold her dear in their hearts. Liz will forever be remembered as the first girl on the dance floor and the last one off.
